New Moon at 7° Taurus
An Explosive New Beginning? This new moon is forming a T Square with the Mars-Pluto opposition and I'm not mad at it. Also, if you work hard, your dreams can come true.

I’m not one that believes that things are set in stone, and I prefer to use astrology to be aware of the coming energies to use them the best we can. So, whenever engaging with any of my astrological work, keep that in mind. Just because something is possible, doesn’t mean it will happen. The energies will be present, but we are co-creating and our personal energies and decisions are interacting with those of others and the cosmos. Astrology can show us the backdrop of the energies present for the world and in our lives, those are predictable, what we choose to do is on us.
So, initially I thought this was going to be a pretty chill lunation, at least in comparison to the ones over these last couple of months. However, my eyes were drawn immediately to the T square between Mars, the Sun, and the Moon, with the new moon being the release point of the Mars-Pluto opposition. Also, Venus, the ruler of the new moon, in conjunction with Saturn can play out in a couple of different ways, but I’m not too concerned about that. Venus has come into direct contact with Saturn three times and is now moving on. This new beginning can help some people make dreams a reality, at least if they are willing to work really hard to do so and not give up.
So, a new moon is formed when the Sun and Moon meet up in our skies and the light that the moon usually gives us at night is no longer visible, because she’s renewing her cycle with the Sun. This is usually a magical and interesting time. Up until the Moon meets up with the Sun, she’s closing the previous cycle and the energies are those of endings and closing. She slowly goes completely dark, and then begins to emerge with a new purpose and renovated energies. The area of life ruled by the sign that we have the new moon will show us a lot about where the energies will play out. The energies present at the exact time of the Moon meeting with the Sun are important as well, understanding them can help us understand a lot about the story beginning and how it will unfold.
The new moon is occurring in the sign of Taurus, and at this time you should look at the Taurus part of your chart. This is where you can expect some sort of new beginning and/or renovation of energies. For this, I use whole sign houses and in order to have accurate house placements and get accurate information, make sure that the chart you’re using has your accurate time of birth, preferably verified with a birth certificate. Taurus is an interesting place for this new beginning because we’ve had a lot going on with Venus over these last couple of months. She has recently renewed her energies and is on a new, self-informed path. At the time of this new moon she’s in the sign of her exaltation, and while she’s still moving slow and coming off her last meeting with Saturn for the year, she’s got everything she needs at her disposition. I like this for our new beginning. As a Leo rising, it’ll be happening in my 10th house of career and public reputation. My chart is a bit more complicated, but that will be some of the energy involved when it comes to career stuff for me. Again, look at your chart and see where you can expect a new beginning that is more connected to your values and worth. A key thing here is incorporating lessons that you’ve been learning over the last few years, and more specifically, the last few months, in that new beginning. Remember to work hard because Saturn has a hand in this and if you’re not going to put in the work, it’s not going to happen. Energies like the involvement of Saturn are the type of thing I reference in the beginning, if you’re aware of the energies you can make informed choices.
I suppose now is a good time to address that Venus-Saturn conjunction. Venus and Saturn have been dancing in the sky for the last few months and it’s been an intense dance of will and desire, love and loss, dreams and reality. Their dance for the year is finishing and it’s impact will be lasting, baked into this new beginning we’ll be experiencing. As I mentioned earlier, this can be a good thing. When we’ve got Venus in Pisces, we’ve got a very dreamy, idealistic energy surrounding a planet whose energies are naturally drawn to those things in search of pleasure and comfort, harmony and peace. Things cooked up by Venus in Pisces might be completely unrealistic and have no chance of making it in the real world. This time it’s different though. Venus has just gone through a refinement process, taking her through hell and back and she’s had the contact with Saturn to sober her up throughout the process. I don’t know how many people reading this can recall the 40 days and 40 nights an important figure in many religions went through, but that describes the retrograde of Venus which lasts that amount of time. Her contact with Saturn before, during and then after all of this has connected her to reality all along. His energy is cold and harsh, much like our winters he reigns over, but they keep us in touch with the reality of endings and time and the need to be prepared. This has put Venus in a very special spot because, while she might usually be way off in La La Land while transiting the sign she’s most powerful in, this time she’s stayed connected to reality and it was happening while she enters into a new phase and will be more focused on achieving her goals. Think of the power that comes from this and making something tangible come from something you truly want and need in your life. We cannot forget the work that must be put in because if you don’t prepare, you don’t survive winter, but if you’re willing to struggle and keep on going, your dreams can become a reality. The new beginning in Taurus has a chance if you’re connected to that reality.
At the time of this new moon, Venus is also not too far from the south node. The energy of the nodes is curious and complex. They’ve been linked to so many different things in different cultures and each node has it’s own set of possible significations. Usually, when the south node is involved, there’s an association made to releasing something, but we cannot forget it’s possible connection to the past and possible gifts we bring with us into this world in this life. The proximity of Venus to Saturn and the south node might signify that with some work we can begin to incorporate some gifts from past lives, or younger years, into this new beginning. There’s even a chance that destined connections will play a role in the new beginning. This can be a complex configuration though, because according to some belief systems, the south node gives us the “Old Familiar Shoes” syndrome and might make it hard for some to move into and towards the energy of the north node, impeding our progress. Just the same, I am of the thinking that the south node is charged with those things we’ve worked towards in lifetimes past and can be a source of strength and comfort. We just can’t stay in that energy, and must incorporate those strengths, talents and wisdom in our journey towards the uncertain and newer energies of the north node. For those with more interest in certain forms of astrology, we’ve got two really strong significators of big-picture players and soul-level story lines with both Saturn and the south node so close to the ruler of the new moon; Pluto’s involvement with the new moon itself will also be of interest.
The energy of the new moon in a T Square with the Mars-Pluto opposition is another intense energy. In many places, this new moon will come exact during the day, making Mars the malefic contrary to sect. In other words, Mars is the planet which will likely be the most problematic for most people. Saturn during the day will typically not be able to get too extreme and difficulties produced by Saturn might be more readily overcome. Mars, a hot planet, supported by the warmth of the Sun during the day, might give us more trouble as he’ll be able to burn more readily. The opposition to Pluto intensifies Mars’ own energies. The Sun and the Moon are both moving out of the intense 3 degree orb with this T Square, but the energy will likely still be frustrating and explosive for many people. Mars is a planet that spurs action and might do that through anger or some type of drive that invigorates and forces someone’s hand, Pluto tends to make that more extreme. Be aware that with this new beginning, this energy will be present. The tendency to overreact or overdo something might be a lot more prominent. Bursts of anger, or rage might also be possible. A more healthy manifestation of this opposition could be a powerful urge to act driven by the opposition. Since the new moon and new beginning are serving as a release point for the Mars-Pluto opposition, some people might be experiencing this new beginning spurring from this power struggle and a need for both energies to be released. Pay attention to the areas of your chart governed by Leo and Aquarius in your natal chart. These are going to be two areas that might be a bit explosive in the new beginning initiated by new moon. For example, for Leo risings, there could be a situation boiling between the person and a partner (in any capacity, romantic or otherwise) that causes them to change something in their careers or changes how they will be seen in the public eye. For those who work with clients, clients also sometimes represented in the 7th house as well. For some Leo risings, in order to be more true to themselves and pursue their desires, but also deal with pressure on the other side, they might change they way they practice their careers or they might change careers to something that is more fulfilling. Some people might just get in a fight with a partner and that shows up in a public manner.. or they decide to change their career path because they had already been figuring out that they weren’t into where they were going anyways and the pressure has pushed them out of the comfort zone. Some Leo risings might start to do things dealing with the occult, alternative healing, or trauma resolution or therapy… Specifics will be different for everyone, but a lot of these things will be part of bigger stories from the last few months and/or years.
Saturn and Uranus in positive aspect to each other is supportive of structural change as well. Neptune in positive aspect with the Mars-Pluto opposition is also an interesting energy that can connect us to big-picture changes that will be occurring over a longer period of time and might implicate a spiritual or idealistic influence on this new beginning that’s created. If you apply wider orbs, even Venus might have an influence, but that is a much wider orb and it crosses the sign boundary, which not everyone is comfortable with. At any rate, I hope this helps someone understand some of the energies that will be present during this upcoming new moon. I say the key here is being connected to your true values, your true value and allowing that to guide you as you embark on a new journey. The connection to those things might help fuel you as you struggle to make your dreams come true, hard work with a goal in mind can make what seems impossible, possible.
